I still remember. After committing to regularly attending a church, I was invited to attend a Ministry Fair. It was at the fair that I agreed to serve on the Tech Team at my church. I was, shortly thereafter, trained on running the soundboard and eventually other areas of the Tech Arts ministry.
The Ministry Fair was conducted outside of the space our church rented, immediately following the last service of the day. There were tables setup with handouts, looping videos, and other similar things related to all of the different ministries of the church. It reminded me of the many trade shows I was attending at the time as an executive leader in a manufacturing company.
I filled out an “interest card” and was contacted that week to ask questions and find out more about serving as a member of the Arts Team. I’ve been serving in some capacity since then.
A while back we did our first Ministry Fair at my church. It was a big success with more than 100 interest cards filled out by attendees. One of the most important parts of this volunteer recruiting effort was that the message was on the topic of serving the local church. Our senior pastor did a great job with it! His message included this video testimony from one of our key lay leaders.
