If you’ve followed this site at all, you know that the topic of leadership is one of my favorites. I’ve shared my opinion many times that “good leaders are extremely rare.” Why?
Successful leaders are few and far between because of the HUGE challenge of influencing the behavior of others. And, influencing the behavior of others in a positive, God-honoring, productive way is even more difficult.
My love of the topic and feelings about the rarity of successful leaders led me to share what I’ve called my Leadership Fundamentals. If you haven’t read this series of posts yet, I encourage you to do so. I would also appreciate your feedback on each of the 8 fundamentals.
I remember reading an article on the Forbes site a while back that was pretty interesting. The article, The Most Successful Leaders Do 15 Things Automatically, Every Day describes successful leadership behavior. So what do successful leaders “do?”
Here’s a quote from the beginning of the article:

If you are looking to advance your career into a leadership capacity and / or already assume leadership responsibilities – here are 15 things you must do automatically, every day, to be a successful leader …
As is usually the case, I (at least) can find each one of my “8 Fundamentals of Leadership” in these “15 Things Successful Leaders Do.” Here they are:
- Make Others Feel Safe To Speak-Up
- Make Decisions
- Communicate Expectations
- Challenge People to Think
- Be Accountable to Others
- Lead by Example
- Measure & Reward Performance
- Provide Continuous Feedback
- Properly Allocate and Deploy Talent
- Ask Questions, Seek Counsel
- Problem Solve; Avoid Procrastination
- Positive Energy & Attitude
- Be a Great Teacher
- Invest in Relationships
- Genuinely Enjoy Responsibilities
I would also say there’s other stuff here that I haven’t covered.
