This past Sunday each of our services included baptisms. Our senior pastor ended his message with a prompting to be baptized. He “drew the bridge” and left the stage to get in the water and wait for people to make their decision and come up right then. We had t-shirts and towels ready for people.
Of course we planned ahead by letting people know we would be doing baptisms as part of each service. Our ministry staff went through a long list of people on small group and volunteer rosters that had not yet been baptized, each taking the responsibility to contact those with whom they had relationships.
So, we had a few people “signed up” ahead of time for the first 2 services. But, nobody signed up for 3rd service.
Just before the 3rd service started, our senior pastor sent all of us a text prompting us to begin praying about the individuals we had contacted and others with whom we serve and/or otherwise had been working with to make the decision.
You guessed it! The 3rd service was the largest in terms of the number of people who stepped up. Twenty people were baptized during the 3 services, with most happening as part of 3rd service, the service with nobody signed up ahead of time. Pretty cool!
